Wash your gi in the washing machine with a small amount of laundry detergent.
Use cold water and a delicate cycle to protect the fabric.
Then, hang it up to air dry.
Avoid tumble-drying it since it could damage the fabric.
Can you put your gi in the dryer?
Don’t throw them in the dryer UNLESS you’re intentionally trying to shrink it. Shrinking is not the only risk when putting your gi in the dryer. Putting it in the dryer one too many times will soften it up, and weaken it.
How often should you wash your GI?
Ultimately washing your gi can feel like a bit of a minefield. Personally, after the first few washes in cold water, I wash everything on warm and I dry them on low heat in about 20 minute intervals until they are about 90% dry. I like to check them every 20 minutes or so, so that I don’t have any surprises.

How long does a GI take to air dry?
I wash and machine dry all of my gis. Box fan takes me about 4 hours in a dry climate. Air setting on my dryer seems to take longer. I used to buy larger gis for karate, shrink them as far as they would go, and then dry on hot every time.
Can you use fabric softener on a GI?
Use mild detergent and fabric softener. Using fabric softener will make your gi softer, more comfortable and help improve the odor. For stains and odor we recommend OxiClean. Never use bleach as it’s too aggressive and will damage the fabric, stitching and embroidery.
Should I wash my GI belt?
If you wash your Gi after every training, like a normal person then you can wash your belt once a week, let your belt out in the sun, or just let your belt dry out of the bag. Don’t worry, your magic powers won’t go away.
How do I keep my GI soft?
Just hang dry it and throw it in the dryer on a low setting with fabric softener. You can also just toss it in high heat for 10-15 minutes and it should be the same. Either option will make the gi soft and shouldn’t shrink.
