Why are my clothes fading in the wash?
Warm water tends to break down fibers, which can cause fading. Warm water also can cause colors to bleed into one another. Choosing a detergent that works well with cold water will also help prevent fading. The sun is a great drying tool but will fade the color right out of your clothing.
How do I make faded shirts look new?
To restore your faded clothes, put 1/2 cup of salt into your regular wash cycle, which will remove any detergent build-up and make your clothes look newer. Alternatively, add 1/2 cup of white vinegar to your washing machine’s fabric softener drawer, which will help break-up detergent build-up.
Does the washing machine fade clothes?
During a typical wash cycle, clothes are agitated during washing, rinsing, and spinning for roughly 30 minutes. That abrasion can break down fibers, and cause pilling, which over the lifetime of the garment causes it to look more faded.
How do you wash clothes that lose color?
Always wash colors in cold water. Hand-wash your clothes, if possible. In a machine, wash them on the delicate cycle and set the water temperature to cold. Use color-protecting laundry detergent and one tablespoon of regular table salt in the wash.
