- Wash in cold water. Line/hang dry, this will maximize the life of your BJJ kimono and minimize shrinkage.

- DO NOT DRY YOUR GI UNDER THE SUN. It will dry out the fibers and reduce the durability of the BJJ Gi.

Can you machine wash a GI?
Wash your gi in the washing machine with a small amount of laundry detergent. Use cold water and a delicate cycle to protect the fabric. Then, hang it up to air dry. Avoid tumble-drying it since it could damage the fabric.
How do you wash a new Jiu Jitsu Gi?
Wash separately the first time, and then with like colors after that. Don’t iron the prints/logos. We always recommend washing your gi in cold water, low/medium spin, and low/normal soil level, and then air drying. Never tumble dry your gi unless you want it to shrink, and even then do so VERY carefully.
How often should I wash my BJJ Gi?
Make it a priority to wash your gi after every practice as soon as you can. Your gym bag should be used to carry your gear not store it. That’s the most common place I’ve noticed gis discolor and get funky. Make it a priority to wash yourself after every practice as soon as possible.
Can I put my BJJ gi in the dryer?
Don’t throw them in the dryer UNLESS you’re intentionally trying to shrink it. Shrinking is not the only risk when putting your gi in the dryer. Putting it in the dryer one too many times will soften it up, and weaken it.
How do I keep my BJJ Gi White?
Here’s a better solution:
- forget the baking soda.
- soak the gi in a water/vinegar solution.
- completely rinse the gi int he washing machine (no soap)
- Pull the gi out and pre-treat the stains.
- Soak the gi again in oxiclean.
- put the Gi back in the machine and add oxiclean.
- once complete, inspect.
How do I whiten my GI?
Hydrogen Peroxide is an excellent alternative to bleach and can be used successfully to whiten your gi naturally without bleach. Add about a half cup to your wash with regular detergent and your gi will come out as white as ever. Hydrogen Peroxide is also a foolproof way to remove blood from your gi.

Should you wash your GI belt?
If you wash your Gi after every training, like a normal person then you can wash your belt once a week, let your belt out in the sun, or just let your belt dry out of the bag. Don’t worry, your magic powers won’t go away.
